Snowmaking Towers & Snowguns

HKD SnowmakersSnow Economics, Inc. is a long-standing family run business founded in 1991 by Herman K. Dupre and his son-in-law, Charles N. Santry. The company is based in Natick, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Since inception, Snow Economics, Inc. has installed snowmaking products at more than 420 ski areas around the world. All of the products developed and manufactured by Snow Economics, Inc. utilize energy efficient HKD air / water technology.

Some of the countries where HKD Technology is in operation are the U.S.A., Canada, Korea, Japan, China, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Norway and New Zealand.

Although Snow Economics, Inc. was incorporated more than 15 years ago, HKD Technology was conceived some 20 years prior by Herman K. Dupre. Mr. Dupre, founder of Seven Springs Resort in Western Pennsylvania and inventor of the patented HKD Tower system spent numerous years developing and refining his technology in its practical application, on the mountain. With the HKD Tower System in place, Seven Springs has the unprecedented ability to make snow at the rate of 30,000 gallons per minute using only 26,000 cubic feet per minute of compressed air. With these capacities, the resort is able to blanket 400 skiable acres of terrain with 12 inches of snow in approximately 48 hours.

HKD Products:

HKD offers a full range of snowgun towers and accessories to fit any snowmaking application.

The S Series raises the bar for air/water snowmaking technology. The multi-chambered, completely modular Tower can utilize our Patented double valve base configuration or the rugged fixed flow base block with any of efficient snowgun nozzle designs. S Series Towers can be mounted on the S Fixed Bracket at the side of a trail or sled mounted to patrol a variety snowmaking locations. The modular design of the S Series allows for technology upgrades and streamlines general maintenance and repair work. Enjoy the peace of mind that your snowmaking investment with HKD Snowmakers can evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of your resort.

The The BRAND NEW HKD SV10 Impulse marks yet another milestone in the development of HKD Low-E Technology. The Impulse's unique design incorporates Snow Economics' dynamic Low-E air control technology (patent pending). The Impulse gives the snowmaker the ability to manage snowgun performance at all temperatures by adjusting air AND water flows, simultaneously. The Impulse is essentially two low-e tower snowguns in one. In the high temp mode, the Impulse uses a little more compressed air to cover your most critical, early opening terrain under marginal snowmaking conditions. As temperatures fall, the Impulse is capable of shifting gears (while operating) to its outrageously efficient, low airflow, low-energy consumption mode. The revolutionary air flow adjustment capability of the Impulse allows for snowmaking performance and efficiencies unattainable by competing products.

Super Blizzard

HKD Super Blizzard SnowmakerHKD has taken portable, self contained snowmaking to the extreme with the new Super Blizzard. This machine is for the serious snowmaker with a real job to do! The Super Blizzard uses the patented "HKD" snowmaking technology developed by Snow Economics, Inc. and used by ski resorts around the world. These resorts rely on our technology to get open and to maintain a quality snow surface on their trails throughout the winter. So why not have that same reliability and capacity for your snowmaking needs!

The Super Blizzard can make snow at the rate of 35 Gallons per minute (GPM) and can pull water from a pond, lake or river, or take water from a fire hydrant. Components include two Electric motors 480 V/3 phase (or 600 V) which drive the water pump and air compressor. All components are designed for the long haul, capable of running uninterrupted for days at a time. The machine is efficiently laid out in the protected environment of a 6' x 10' enclosed trailer, road ready with ball hitch. This allows for easy transport to and from the action. Also included is the snowgun and aluminum sled as well as all hoses to connect to your water source and then to connect to the snowgun.

Generally start up temperature is +/-28 Deg F depending on the humidity and water temperature. The snowgun has three flow rates which are controlled by two ball valves at the base of the snowgun.
